6-hour Kids Kite Course (from age 10), spread over 3–4 days
(Start: Mon, Wed or Sat)
The kids’ training begins with 3 hours of participation in the regular beginner course, including a short theory session, spot check, kite setup and pack-down, the 3-step safety system, and flying a trainer kite.
For safety reasons, the remaining part continues with 3 hours of one-on-one instruction – 1.5 hours per day.
Good to know
Starting age
When a child is ready to learn kitesurfing depends on their individual development and motivation. Good concentration skills, body awareness and balance, and a genuine interest in learning kitesurfing are required. It is also essential that the child can swim very confidently and is able to stay afloat for at least 15 minutes without difficulty.
When these requirements are met varies from child to child. In exceptional cases, this may already be possible at 8 years old, but generally 10 years and older is more realistic. We are happy to discuss this in advance by email, phone, or on site.
Weight
The kids’ course is designed for children weighing approximately 35 kg to 50 kg.
Special features
Kids’ training is not the same as adult training
Children’s lessons differ fundamentally from adult training in terms of equipment, teaching methods, and requirements for the spot.
Equipment
Kitesurf lessons for children use specially designed kids’ equipment: small, well-balanced kites, small bars and boards, and small, comfortable harnesses. The child’s weight plays an important role in equipment selection.
Methodology
The teaching concept is tailored to children in general and specifically to each child’s developmental level (concentration and physical endurance). This means shorter lesson units and very visual learning models in theory.
In practical training, safety and fun are the top priorities. We train children exclusively in one-on-one lessons to ensure maximum safety for our young kitesurfers. The instructor’s full attention is 100% focused on the child. This allows the learning pace to be perfectly adapted, supporting motivation and concentration.
A second, equally important aspect is fun, which is essential for a positive introduction to the sport. Children typically learn very quickly, and the combination of safety and enjoyment in a KBC course leads to long-lasting learning success. The KBC instructor team is specially trained in teaching children.
The spot
The kitesurfing spot plays a crucial role. The water should be comfortably warm, as children tend to get cold more quickly. In thick wetsuits, water temperatures should not be below 18°C, preferably warmer. The ground should be sandy or clay-based, never rocky, to avoid injuries.
Wind strengths of 11 to 16 knots are ideal. Our training areas at Brouwersdam offer excellent conditions for kids’ kitesurf lessons.
We train children exclusively in one-on-one instruction to ensure the highest possible safety for our young kitesurf students.
